Men’s soccer strikes first
The Hounds picked up their first win of the season on Saturday against Saint Thomas Aquinas. Assumption won their home opener by a score of 4-2 after a three-goal explosion from the Hounds offense.
The Hounds scored first in the 22 minute off sophomore forward Chase Gurcan’s first of two goals.
The Spartans were quick to respond in the 30 though off of a shot from freshman forward Michael Suflita to tie it up 1-1.
Shortly after the start of the second half in the 50 minute, Spartans midfielder Jonathan Garces scored to make it 2-1 Spartans.
The Hounds would begin their scoring explosion 17 minutes later in the 67 minute. Senior forward Ethan Morrow scored to tie the game at 2.
The Hounds pulled ahead 3-2 in the 76 minute off a shot from freshman forward Simon Trcka.
About three minutes later in the 79 minute, sophomore forward Chase Gurcan scored his second goal of the game to give the Hounds some insurance as they pulled ahead 4-2.
The final score was 4-2 Hounds as Assumption picked up their first win to improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas dropped their first game of the year and fell to 3-1.
According to one member of the team, this win “was a good momentum builder” as they look to build upon this success in their next few games versus NE-10 opponents Saint Anselm, Bentley and Adelphi this coming week.
