New semester, new initiatives
The Student Government Association has started the semester off strong with many initiatives underway. As you probably read about in the news section, we have officially begun a campus collaboration with Uber. We are looking forward to seeing how this program works throughout the semester and hope that it will be a great success.
Our Internal and External Policy Review Committee has been working on many projects including reviewing the Student Handbook page by page in order to ensure clarity throughout the document.
Additionally, our VP for Student Affairs, Julia Demkowicz, has been working on collaborating with Campus Police to clarify parking and fire lane policies across campus and troubleshoot problems with parking accessibility in various locations.
Our Academic Experience Committee has been working on a big project to create an online syllabi repository accessible to any undergraduate student at Assumption via the portal. So far, we have collected over one hundred syllabi from students and our numbers are growing every day.
This initiative will continue throughout the semester. We ask that you please consider dropping off a copy of your class syllabus in our office (located in Hagan Hall) or emailing a digital copy to our Academic Experience committee chair, Kaitlynn Samalis, email@example.com.
Our Student Engagement Committee is organizing our first Red Cross Blood Drive of the semester on Monday, February 5, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Hagan Campus Center Hall. Each donor will receive a five dollar gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts and a free t-shirt. Donors can sign up ahead of time outside of the SGA office or online at redcrossblood.org. Please consider donating if you can.
Our Student and Campus Services committee is working towards improving the offerings in our Dining Halls, specifically for those with allergies. They are also looking into working with Buildings and Grounds to improve campus conditions.
One point we wish to stress this semester is that our Sunday senate meetings are open to any member of the Assumption community who is interested in learning about our conversations. They are held each week at 8:20 p.m. in the Tsotsis Family Academic Center, Ballroom B.
Additionally, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about campus life, academics, or anything else, please feel free to stop by our office or send us an email atSGA@assumption.edu.
