Power-packed semester to come for CAB

Published 8 months ago -

Happy New Year and welcome back to campus. We all hope you had a restful break and are refreshed and excited for a new semester. Campus Activities Board (CAB) has been working hard and is excited to begin the new semester with all the students. The first week of classes is always busy, but CAB planned three events to allow students to have fun and enjoy good food. The first event was “The Deal Is Right” on Thursday. This event attracted a crowd of 78 people who won prizes, gift cards and money. They also enjoyed wings and free fuzzy socks. The host kept everyone laughing and on the edge of their seat.

On Friday, CAB hosted Clay Time. For this event, 83 students had the choice of painting a plate, bowl or mug. There was gourmet popcorn from Pop on the Block. The flavors included salt and vinegar, ranch, barbeque, mint chocolate and pina colada.

The last event on Saturday was a performer. John Cassidy is a balloon artist, comedian and magician who came to campus and performed in the Curtis Performing arts center. He kept students laughing and on their feet, wondering what trick he would pull next. He was very entertaining and the students and faculty loved him. This event drew 60 people and included a mocktail hour of appetizers and shirley temples before the show.

The next event CAB had was Mini Golf. This event was a hit. Students enjoyed putting in Plourde and eating ice cream sandwiches.

The first travel event of the semester CAB will be doing is co-sponsored by Campus Recreation. There will be a trip to the Worcester Railers game at the DCU Center on February 3. This game is a package deal. For $5, students will receive a ticket to the game with ice level seating, a food voucher, a bobblehead and a chance to compete in two contests on the ice. A fun Saturday night in Worcester. Stop by the CAB office to find out more and to get a ticket.

CAB has already booked a few performers lined up for this semester. There will be a singer songwriter, a comedian, more travel events, concert, spring ball and so much more. Look out for our events this semester on flyers, posters and creative advertisements. Come to our events and give us feedback on the performers and what you would like to see in the future. We want to cater to the students’ needs. Coffee with CAB has been moved to Mondays at 11:30 a.m. Be sure to come to our table to get free coffee, food and to hear about our upcoming events.

As always, CAB is looking for new members at any time in the semester and input as to what students want to see on campus. Come to the CAB meetings on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Activities Resource Room (SARR).
