Some thought that Disney could “let it go” and leave “Frozen” behind with its beautiful animation, powerful storyline and clever music; but, of course, they’re doing a sequel. The “Frozen 2” teaser trailer was released on February 13 and fans are wondering what the plot is going to be. There are multiple theories going around but no one is quite sure. All that we know is what IMDb lists as the storyline. They write “Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf are going far in the forest to learn the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom.”

The teaser trailer starts off with Elsa battling the ocean and trying to walk on the water as waves crash around her. This is the typical Elsa everyone knows and loves, the strong, determined and ambitious ice queen. Just like the first movie, she is alone and isolated. It seems as if she is trying to escape.

After the words This Fall appears, the viewer is taken back to Arendelle, where Anna looks out from her balcony to see multiple ice crystal symbols shining on the palace. This makes the viewer really question what is happening. Is something invading the kingdom of Arendelle? Are there more people with powers like Elsa? What do these symbols mean – are they evil or good?

Over a familiar score from the first film, the beloved characters return including Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf. Anna and Elsa seem to have similar but new styles that make them stand out and look more fierce than the first movie.

The trailer also seems to highlight different nature elements such as water, wind, and fire. The different seasons also seem to be present, especially autumn, with leaves falling and the trees turning colors.

Based on all this information, it seems like “Frozen 2” will take a look into other elements and seasons. Disney has already produced shorts based in the winter and spring, so it is only natural to place this film during the fall.

This film could explore other people with similar powers as Elsa, perhaps those who control other elements such as fire, wind and water. Could the ancient mystery of the kingdom be based on what gave Elsa her powers? Could it explain why the boat that Anna and Elsa’s parents were on went crashing in the waves and they were lost at sea? Or could the famous Hans and his 12 brothers make an appearance to take over the kingdom of Arendelle? Only time will tell.

All I know for sure is that “Frozen 2” has to live up to some major expectations. Just from the trailer, the animation is even more impressive than the first movie. The storyline seems like an action packed and fierce take on a beloved classic. Hopefully, there will be even more original, catchy music that will get people singing and wanting more. A new cast of characters I’m sure is in the works but I hope that they do not overpower those familiar characters we all know and love.

Besides what we can see and predict based on the teaser trailer, there have been a lot of people calling for Elsa to have a female love interest, which would make her the first gay character in a Disney movie. There are many mixed emotions about that proposed script write in. So, the only way to find out what Disney does with that theory is for people to flock to the theaters to find out.

“Frozen 2” will be released just before Thanksgiving on November 22, 2019.
