Did you survive Assumption College’s Siblings’ Weekend? Students and their siblings enjoyed a taste of the tropics despite being in New England in February. The Campus Activities Board kicked off the weekend with bingo in Taylor Dining Hall. Over 70 siblings joined us on Friday for a chance to win some of our amazing prizes. Our lucky winners went home with two Best Buy gift cards, a full Harry Potter series, a Nook Color, Dr. Dre Beatz or a video camera.
Students and siblings then joined us for the Tribal Council Friday night entertainment. Attendants could choose to go upstairs to the Hagan Campus Center Hall to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two while enjoying pizza, popcorn and candy or go downstairs to Charlie’s where they could make their own sundaes and play games. With all the fun choices offered on Friday night, everyone had a blast.
Saturday began at noon in Plourde with a luau. Students and their siblings enjoyed the Siblings’ Weekend’s classic carnival with a tropical twist. Students raised their siblings up the tiki rock wall or down the Wipe Out inflatable slide. Those in attendance enjoyed game provided during the carnival including the shark attack sling shot and Assumption College mini golf. Students and siblings got to make their own fish tanks to take home as well as a personalized post card with one of six tropical sceneries. And of course, what would a luau be without a tropical smoothie bar with a variety of fruity flavors? Siblings also enjoyed our amazing juggler and balloon artist taking requests throughout the event.
CAB would also like to thank all the organizations that helped out during the carnival. Siblings had a blast tye-dying t-shirts with Student Government Association, getting their face painted by Resident Hall Association and having their hair braided by the African/ Latino-Hispanic/ Asian/ Native American Network.
The fun did not stop there. Students and siblings joined us back in Plourde to watch the amazing comedic variety act, Campus Chaos. Performing their show entitled, “Juggle This,” the duo awed the crowd with their tricks and left them laughing with their hilarious commentary.
On Saturday, February 25, students enjoyed singer/songwriter Preston Pugmire in Charlie’s. Pugmire used a mixture of instruments and machines to create a unique sound in his one-man band. Singing some classic songs students could sing along to, Pugmire was a hit with Assumption students. Students enjoyed a variety of free food while enjoying the musical performance.
If you missed Spring Ball ticket sales, don’t worry. There are still tickets available, but numbers are limited. Be sure to stop by the Office of Student Activities as soon as possible to purchase your ticket. You do not want to miss out on this great night. This year’s ball, entitled “A Night to Treasure,” will be held on Friday, March 23 at the DCU Center from 6 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are running out so be sure to get yours soon.
Curious about the Spring Concert? CAB will be releasing a series of videos that will give you a hint about this year’s artist. See if you can be the first out of your friends to figure out who will be coming in April. The first video will be released February 29. Students can find the video by subscribing to our YouTube channel, AssumptionCAB. A link will be provided through our Facebook and Twitter. If you haven’t yet, be sure to follow us on Twitter at AC_CAB or friend us on Facebook at Assumption College Campus Activities Board. You will be kept up to date with our latest events.
If you are interested in getting the full concert experience, be sure to come by our CAB meetings and join the concert committee. CAB meetings are held every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the SARR located in the basement of Hagan. All students are welcome and we always encourage new members.
