Dr. Jeff Taylor on Transylvanian Carpet: "A Cultural Cocktail"

Abstract:
Carpets. Found in every society and culture, these floor coverings may seem mundane and ordinary to the unknowing individual. After all, carpets are made for people to walk on and, generally, do not last for long periods of time due to wear and overuse. For a brief second, however, stop and think about the presence of carpets in the society today....

I just felt like I should write into the website. This writer has delivered again with another well-written article. I have been reading the Provoc for about 15 years now and I must say this writer is among the most talented I have read. Each article he writes, whether sports, opinion, or news is articulately done with a great style that draws the reader in and prevents the article from getting stale. I have not read another writer who could make a seemingly bland topic such as the history of carpets exciting and informative. He is definitely the best writer all-around of the past 7 or 8 years and I look forward to reading his future articles. My one wish is that some of the other newspaper writers, editors included, had his writing ability so that the entire Provoc could be enjoyable and without the meaningless weekly "columns" that are put forth.

PAT MCDONALD FTW! And props to you too, Mary, for throwing up some positive commentary about Pat and the Provoc instead of the usual stuff I read in the comment section (Here's some more: love the color in the print edition, keep it up.)

But in all seriousness, Pat's a heck of a writer and I too enjoy reading his stuff. No love for the columns though? I thought they've been pretty good in recent years.

Anyways keep on keepin' on Provoc staff. You guys take a lot of crap that's undeserved.

Bravo for good feedback for the Provoc. I would like to echo the previous comments and give major props to the newspaper for the new year of issues. I love the color added this year as well as the new batch of writers who continue the excellence of Provoc writing. As a former graduate and an alumnus who remains up-to-date on the happenings on campus, I know that many people attempt to disparage the Provoc and its presence on campus. I have heard from some people on campus that recently, many members of SGA have made some remarks questioning the validity of the Provoc. I would just like to say that it was the same way when I attended the school, so don't worry Provoc staff and writers, you are doing a marvelous job. In fact, I constantly hear other alumni complimenting the fantastic job you are doing this year so keep up the good work. (Don't worry about the SGA's thoughts either; what job do they do on campus worthy of notation? They are simply a self-serving group that tries to project a false importance on the rest of the community when in fact they serve no practical function)
