Planner of 2010 Senior Week defends tradition

Abstract:
One of the reasons I love this country is our right to freedom of speech. I consider it a great privilege that this is something we are also allowed to take advantage of with our school newspaper. However, it upsets me greatly when people use this privilege as an excuse to display their ignorance to others....

This isn't so much a "defense of tradition" as much as it is an attack on Dan. Supplying the facts you accused Dan of lacking would have resulted in, at least, a well written article. Shame on you.

Take it easy pal, I've seen more restraint in pro wrestlers during pre-match interviews.

"CORRADO, I WANT YOU AT SUMMERSLAM! STEEL CAGE BROTHER!"

What a whiny, immature response. Class officers should know that their positions come with a little weight behind them, and that not everybody is going to love all of their decisions 100 percent of the time, especially if money is involved. That's the risk you take running for a position...it's not always free t-shirts, hand holding, and luncheons with the President.

I'm proud of you Brian! I never would've expected such an article way back when. Gutsy and well written. Being a student leader is much, much more than free t-shirts and lunches with the President (which few of us ever attend), it is a lot of work that we all VOLUNTEER our time to do. If the previous posters wanted something else for their Senior weeks maybe they should've gotten involved themselves.

This article is ridiculous. Not once does this author make a reasonable defense of senior week and its terrible events. He must not have any worthwhile insight on the topic. For an English major, his writing style and structure is pathetic...if he repeated "the author was uninformed" i was gonna throw up. It seems this author lacks the appropriate skill needed to use verbal posturing as a defense so he resorts to physical attacks instead...yes we all know what happened Brian. How'd Merrimack work out as well?

I'm essentially over this whole matter. Nevertheless, it is difficult to avoid the irony of Brian's opening concerning free speech. My eye is better and my scar is getting there :)

Also, I will say that I respect the hard work that class officers put in to their work. However, this should be a lesson to anybody thinking of running for such a position. If you're going to accept a role in which you are mandated to make decisions that affect a large number of people, be prepared to receive complaints. It comes with the territory.

Maybe there should be in article written about assault on campus and the lack of discipline, that would be better than this garbage. I read Dan's article and read this soon after. Looks like the homeless man on the corner of Lincoln St. wrote it on a slow day.

I take issue with the substance, grammatical form and hypocritical ideology underlying the above author's alleged defense of tradition. Though I certainly understand the enormous effort the aforementioned author put forth in crafting the class of 2010's Senior Week, the petty, ad hominem response haphazardly posted above reflects poorly upon both our student government and the broader Assumption College community.

It's natural for an individual to feel a personal attachment to their work. One considers that which he has accomplished his property and consequently, feels the inherent desire to protect it. Sadly, the author has chosen to do so in the most puerile manner.

The Assumption College community would have benefited from a mature, rational response to the article in question. After all, Socratic debate is at the heart of a true liberal arts education and freedom of speech allows for the efficient exchange of ideas. Verbal and physical attacks do little but cool such discussion and reveal deep intellectual clumsiness.

In the future, I hope the author chooses to argue issues on their merits, rather than furthering logically fallible ad hominems. The individual he feebly attempts to assail surely chose a more judicious path.
