What is the recipe for an incredible Italian restaurant? Start by finding the perfect location with parking available. Mix in a friendly wait staff and timely service. Add a blend of the finest Italian herbs and spices to fill the room with the scent of perfection. Finish off with a touch of candlelight.

Amici's Trattoria, located in the center of historic Shrewsbury, is home to a creative assortment of the finest dishes Italy has to offer. Moderately priced, this is the perfect place to meet a co-worker for lunch, gather with your family, celebrate a recent success with friends, bring a first date, or rekindle an old flame.

If you aren't particularly hungry when you enter the restaurant, your mouth will be watering by the time you arrive at your table. The restaurant is small enough to have a peek at the dishes that everyone else is enjoying, and to quickly pick up on the delicious aromas.

Once you are seated, you will receive a plate of fresh-baked, fluffy bread with a thick, flaky crust, topped off with a taste of butter and garlic salt. A bowl of oil, garlic cloves, and assorted olives provide the perfect dipping sauce.

As the waiter asks for your drink order, you can peruse through the extensive wine list, and order a large glass of your favorite red or white beverage. For those who are not of age, Amici's makes a sweet Shirley Temple, topped with a generous portion of maraschino cherries.

On to the appetizer. I ordered a colorful antipasto for a group of three that was big enough to feed four, and was priced around $7. A pile of fresh, flavorful field greens is covered in ripe red tomatoes, black olives, cheese wedges, and generous portions of meat- salami, ham, and fresh white tuna- all covered in a satisfying home-made vinaigrette. The plate was artfully arranged, as well as aromatic. Just when I was finishing my last bite, our entrees were served.

One of Amici's' specialties is its homemade pizzas. Thin, freshly baked crust can be covered in an assortment of ways, from a basic cheese pizza to one topped in salad. I ordered a large Melanzane, a pizza covered in homemade tomato sauce, feta cheese, mozzarella, and roasted eggplant. You can have it made however you want.

The chef was kind enough to give us one part with extra cheese and one part with only feta cheese. Three of us split the pizza made up of nine large slices, and we left with two for the road. Personal pizzas can also be ordered. A large pizza will run about $14. It is worth the few extra dollars to get a fresh-baked slice of Italy.

Coffee, tea, and an impressive plate of various cheesecakes and chocolate desserts are offered to every customer. I had to refuse, only because I was full to the brim. If I had more time, I could have stayed all evening and enjoyed the wonderful treats that Amici's has to offer.

A filling meal for three can be ordered for roughly $30, but the sky is the limit. Tempting drinks, an assortment of appetizers, enticing entrees, and satisfying desserts are enough to tempt even the strongest of will. Discover the recipe for success that has everyone talking.
