Friday, April 16th was not only the last Pub Night of the spring semester, but also Sophomore Ryan O'Connor's final event to organize as Assumption's Live at Charlie's CAB executive. In hoping to draw a large crowd for the final Late Night Charlie's event, O'Connor organized the Hometown Throwdown which featured AC's own student bands Undercurrent, Etherwave, and September Twilight.

Judging from the exceptionally large student turnout in Charlie's on the evening of April 16th, O'Connor clearly succeeded in making the Hometown Throwdown the most successful Live at Charlie's event of the year. It was estimated that over 260 students came out for the concert and festivities.

"The biggest crowd ever at a Pub Night was between 290 and 300 people [a couple years ago]," said O'Connor.

He also pointed out that Live at Charlie's events usually yield no more than 50 students, considering that the weekly events have to compete with other Worcester nightlife.

O'Connor and the Live at Charlie's subcommittee went all out to make the Hometown Throwdown an event worthy of wrapping up the school year. CAB provided 35 pizzas for the special event which ran from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and gave out free mugs and t-shirts commemorating the concert. Popular money raffles gave students the chance to win $25 in cash.

The bands that performed at the Hometown Throwdown each include at least one Assumption student. Undercurrent's members are Seniors Rob Surwarski, Adam Gravit, and Jeremy Carr, and Junior Mike Dunlea. Etherwave's performance featured Assumption Junior Mike "Sunny" Albrecht, and September Twilight's Junior Luke Delcid and his off-campus bandmates showed that Assumption students really do know how to rock.

O'Connor attributes Hometown Throwdown's Success to the participation of the three Assumption student bands featured in the event, each of which attracted students of varying musical tastes and dorms around campus.

"Each group had its own following and brought its own genre of fans," he said.

O'Connor went on to explain that Undercurrent brought students out from North, South, and West Halls, Etherwave found its following in the LLC and Wachusett dorms; and September Twilight got fans from the Valley to trek over to Charlie's for this special event. He was very pleased by the widespread student participation and support for Hometown Throwdown.
