Applying to jobs? Setting up a resume? Need interview tips? The Student Development Center, or what is now referred to as the Student Development and Counseling Center, is the place to go.

The Student Development and Counseling Center is a great resource to prepare for life after college. The center is comprised of professional counselors, administrative assistants, and interns who are available to assist students with both personal and academic needs.

"The Student Development and Counseling Center can help bring dreams to reality with an emphasis on developing a personal success plan that permits essential effective outcomes, said David Kowalczyk, a career counselor since the fall of 1991.

Kowalczyk believes that students should visit career counselors during their first year at Assumption.

"Our services can only be helpful to students if students look at the Student Development and Counseling Center as a four year endeavor, and not something to look into just during their senior year," said Kowalczyk.

Most seniors wish that they could do their first year all over again, in terms of their academics and seeking help to achieve the foundation of their career aspirations.

Freshmen should begin to contemplate individual success issues, how to do their best work, and how to translate their academic work into potential career thought processes," said Kowalczyk.

While, freshmen struggle to adjust to their new academic lives, the Student Development and Counseling Center is available to offer advice. For freshmen, it may seem early to start looking at graduate schools and possible job opportunities. However, the earlier students start to build a foundation to plan their future the better off they are come senior year.

Sophomore year may be one of the most important years at college. At this time, students should be selecting majors that interest them while exploring experienced-based growth options. Other options to ponder include studying abroad, gaining knowledge at an internship, and becoming involved with work mentoring.
