Yes, that's right. The Green Party has nominated a presidential candidate, and no it is not Ralph Nader. One cannot write an article about the Green Party USA and not mention Ralph Nader. As the New York State Greens said, "Ralph Nader has done more to grow the Green Party than any other individual in this country. He has run as our presidential candidate twice, and has helped the Green Party tremendously in raising funds in between campaigns. He...has attracted media attention that the Green Party would not have received otherwise. Green Party enrollment surged after both of his presidential bids."

However, did you know that Nader is and always has been registered as an Independent? His main reasoning for running as an independent was so that he could get a jump-start on campaigning.

Nevertheless, why should one vote for the Green Party, especially if the man who "has done more to grow the Green Party than any other individual in this country" is not the party's candidate? As a registered member of the Green Party (unlike the great and powerful Nader) I will serve as a mouthpiece for the party.

The Green National Convention held on June 26, 2004 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin resulted in the presidential nomination of David Cobb and the vice presidential nomination of Pat LaMarche. Seven hundred and sixty-nine delegates from 47 states voted in the primary. Cobb, a native of Texas, served as the General Council for the Green Party until declaring his candidacy, while LaMarche, a native of Maine, ran for governor of that state in 1998 and was the first woman to host the WGAN radio talk show in Portland.

The Green candidates can be viewed as the most environmental conscience candidates in the country. The term "green" has taken on the connotation of being environmentally friendly. For example there has been an increased efforts to create "green" buildings. These are buildings that have been created by using recyclable materials and other environmentally friendly means.
