How many college students have trouble eating healthy? Probably the vast majority, considering that when we get sick of Taylor and Charlie's, our most accessible off-campus options are the Wendy's late night pick-up window or Papa Gino's delivery (just see Katelyn Henry's Feature piece on "Roommates"). But whether you're looking to avoid the "freshman 15," accommodate a food allergy, or just find a decent dinner off-campus, Lo-Fat Know-Fat is a wise and healthy choice.
Lo-Fat Know-Fat, located in the White City area of Shrewsbury just past Vinny T's, advertises itself as a "Lo-Carb Hi-Protein Grill." Its menu features dishes you'd expect to find at your average mid-priced restaurant or deli, but with a healthy twist. Popular lunch and dinner choices include BBQ Steak Tip Platter, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Wraps, Tex-Mex Burritos, Sirloin Burgers and Turkey sandwiches. Vegetarian dishes include Veggie Burritos, Portabella or Tofu Wraps, and the Veggie Burger. An array of salads, soups, and "Know Carb" sides such as the famous "Know Fat Air Fries," rice, and potatoes round out the menu.
Entrees can range anywhere from $7.99 to $10.00, while wraps and sandwiches average out between $3.79 and $6.39. Entrees are served with mixed vegetables and a choice of extra veggies, brown rice, jasmine white rice, roasted potato, or Know Fat Air Fries. Wraps can be served on tomato basil, spinach, plain, whole wheat, or Lo-Carb whole wheat tortillas. A serving of Know Fat Air Fries can be added to any wrap for an extra .75, and a side salad can be added as well for another $1.00.
I went to dinner at Lo-Fat Know-Fat with a friend on Friday evening. We were looking for a quiet place to catch up on everything happening in our hectic lives, and "Lo Fat Know Fat" proved to be the perfect location. Only four other people were eating in the spotless, brightly-lit restaurant when we walked up to the counter to order our food. I ordered a small Chicken, Rice and Veggie Wrap on a whole wheat tortilla with ginger thai sauce ($3.79) and a small drink, which together cost a very affordable $6.20. My friend got a Steak Tip Wrap ($4.49) on whole wheat with a side salad and a drink, bringing her total up to just over $9.00.
