What do you do now?

What do you do now if you are a Boston sports fan? The Red Sox won the World Series. What is left? Some fans seem to embrace the fact that actually, there may truly be nothing left. T-shirts have even been made that say "I can die now" - and we all know how big a believer I am that only truth is displayed on t-shirts.

However, I think there is something more. You can never stop hoping that there is a repeat or even a three-peat in the coming years. Of course, as many have said, nothing will live up to this season, this year, this team, and this championship. That is one of the truest statements ever made, but you can never stop keeping the faith for the future.

So where do we go from here? Can we wait in awe until next season - proudly sporting every article of World Series Championship gear possible? What else is there to hope for now that it seems as though all our dreams have been met? I guess all there is to do is to hope that our own kids have an option to live through the type of miracle season that we have lived through. Many say that now the year 1918 has been completely erased. Years from now our kids won't even hear that year, let alone know what importance it held for us in our youth.

But a lot of us are very far way from having our own children, so what can we do in the meantime?

Many broadcasters and announcers from the celebratory parade that took place October 30, 2004, discouraged the "Yankees Suck" cheer. Being an avid Red Sox fan, an even bigger Johnny Damon fan, and a hater of the pinstripes, I was at first shocked that this cheer was causing many to become disheartened. It seemed as though this was the battle cry of all Sox fans; how could people be told to stop yelling it? How was this all possible? And was being told to stop the chant the thing that the Red Sox nation needed at a time like this?

After thinking about it for awhile, it seemed to hit me that the announcers and broadcasters were right, in some respect. Why do we have to think of the Yankees, the arch-nemesis of Red Sox nation, after we beat them making the most amazing comeback in the history of all sports? The Yankees were the type of players that Schilling, Lowe, Martinez, Varitek, and Nixon stepped upon to reach the heights that they did in the post season.
