Thanksgiving has come and gone, and finals and winter break are just around the corner. As hard as it is to believe, especially for those of us who are seniors, first semester is coming to a close. This semester has certainly been a busy one, and one I'm sure we won't soon forget. Just as none of us will ever forget where we were on September 11th back in 2001, most of us will never forget where we were when the Red Sox won the World Series this fall (except for maybe the Yankees or Cardinals fans who are trying hard to forget the pain).

The big events such as these are not hard to remember. But many other things have been happening on campus that have also helped to shape the semester. At the beginning of the semester, SGA quickly became involved with policy issues, especially those circulating around Residential Life and concerns of appropriate enforcement. Questioning of consistency and issues surrounding the open container policy through meetings with administrators became almost a daily task for some members of SGA. Concern was growing among the student body regarding whether or not we were being treated fairly. From theses issues arose the "Peaceful Protest," organized by members of the senior class. The protest was well-organized and allowed students to come together and to hear and discuss some important issues that we had all been facing.

The new Class Town Meetings that began this year proved to be very successful. Students have been able to meet monthly with members of their class senate to discuss any pressing issues they may have. So far these have been useful because they allow students to come together and discuss things that they might not normally discuss or know who to contact. It also allowed the members of SGA to take these ideas away from their town meetings and discuss them at our senate meetings. The Class Assemblies, another new group through SGA this semester, have also had great success in planning class events.

There have been many events this semester that SGA has helped sponsor, which have been very well-attended. Some of these events include Midnight Madness, Light the Night Walk for Leukemia, the College/Town Meeting, Christmas Tree Lighting, Half Court Shoot Out Contest, and Christmas in Charlie's.

The executives have also been hard at work attending regular meetings with President Plough, the Deans of the college, and other members of administration. We have also been attending the Board of Trustees committee meetings as well as Alumni Board meetings. The executives, as well as the entire SGA, have spent the semester discussing and fighting to resolve those issues, which students continue to bring up.

It has been a busy semester and I am sure next semester will be as well. I would urge everyone to please continue to talk with your SGA representatives and keep us informed of any issues that arise so we can continue to move forward and have another successful semester.
