There are always a few hopefuls such as Junior Stephanie Weller, who explained "she plans to routinely play the lottery over break and hope for the best. I have no job to return to because I quit it over the summer, so the lottery is my only hope."
After fall semester, many students have gone through all the hard earned money made over the summer. Whether you are guilty of being a regular at the area bars, an avid visitor to the mall, or simply have no explanation to where it all went, read on for some helpful tips to earn some money over break.
Although that idea of only playing the lottery would be quite appealing if it all worked out, Alisha Andrews has come up with an idea a little more realistic.
"Since I work at an outdoor ice cream shop during the summer, and people aren't too keen on waiting in line in the snow for ice cream, I think I am going to apply for a job at an area mall near home," Andrews said. "I may possibly apply at one of those seasonal Christmas stores, or even a clothing store. I would love a job at a clothing store because although it would be pretty crowded, the discount would make up for it."
Many students may find upon returning home that there are simply no hours at their summer of employment. While some may look for work elsewhere, junior Julie Burns tried a different approach.
"I basically went into Pizzeria Uno's, the restaurant I worked at before returning to school, put my pride aside, and begged," said Burns. "I think my manager realized my intensity when I offered to work on Christmas Day. I know they are closed because I checked in advance, but I thought if I dropped that line he'd feel really bad that I was that desperate enough to offer Christmas Day."
"It worked. He told me he'd fit me in the schedule," Burns said laughing.
If working in the mall, waitressing in a busy restaurant, or spending your time at a gas station buying lottery tickets doesn't appeal to you, try Junior Brian Bacarri's method for income.
