Electronic voice phenomenon or also known as E.V.P is a way for the dead to communicate with the living through static or White Noise. It is a recording of the voices of those who have died. For hundreds of years, people have been trying to communicate with the dead through many different ways such as telephones and Shamans. Today it is known as E.V.P. and is done mostly through electronics such as radio and TV.

It has been reported that a woman by the name of Ruth Baxter died in 1987; however, her voice was recorded through E.V.P. in 2003 and heard by her husband. This eerie, suspenful story is what influenced the movie White Noise, starring Michael Keaton and Chandra West. The story begins with Jonathan Rivers (played by Michael Keaton ), happy and in his home with his second wife Anna (played by Chandra West). Jonathan is a rather successful architect and his wife Anna, is a well known author and had just recently written another book. The couple is deeply in love and cannot live without one another.

One day Anna goes out and is supposed to return in time for dinner, hours and hours pass by she is still no where to be found. A week passes by and after reported missing; Jonathan finds out that his wife has been killed in an accident. Jonathan is devastated and wishes he had been able to at least say good bye to his wife and his unborn child. After weeks and weeks of mourning, Jonathan is approached one day by a man named Raymond Price (played by Ian McNeice). Raymond Price specializes in E.V.P. and explains to Jonathan that his wife Anna has been getting into contact with Raymond and would like to for Jonathan to communicate with her. He explains to Jonathan that many people who have lost loved ones do this so that they can get sense of closure and satisfaction knowing that the one they love is alright and that they are happy. Jonathan is very cynical at first but after weeks and weeks of mourning and missing his wife like crazy, he decides to follow through with it. At first it is hard for him to get in contact with his wife, but after he tries a few more times and hears her voice, he becomes hooked. He then spends his days and his nights trying very hard to contact his wife. His life was revolving around E.V.P. He wanted to keep trying until he could see his wife on the screen. Once he sees her, he begins to believe in everything that Raymond Price had told him, he begins to have faith.
