Made plans after graduation?

One question can strike fear into the hearts of college seniors across the country: "So what are you going to do next year?"

Assumption seniors are not exempt from being expected to answer this question with a description of their future job or graduate school. However, to make finding the answer to the question of "next year" a little easy, David Kowalyzck and Carol McGuiggan of the Student Development and Counseling Center are available to help seniors transition from undergraduate students to members of a work community, volunteer organization, or graduate program.

"A lot of seniors still have strong consideration points and it's ideal for them to work with Career Services and open themselves up to new opportunities," said Kowalyzck.

Students can explore some of these new opportunities by participating in the SDCC's spring semester events.

Next Monday, February 7th, the SDCC will sponsor the program, "What to do at a Career Fair: A Step-by-Step Guide." McGuiggan will give pointers on how to make the most of a career fair.

Seniors and interested juniors will have the ability to put these pointers to use at the two spring career fairs.

The first career fair of the semester will take place on Wednesday, February 16th. The fair will be geared towards students who want to work in the field of human services. Also at the fair will be volunteer organizations like the Peace Core and Language Core as well as the Assumption College Graduate School.

The second career fair is the Consortium Career Fair, which will take place at Holy Cross in March. This fair is sponsored by the Worcester Consortium colleges and their respective career counselors.

"This is a must for anyone who is not currently employed," says Kowalyzck.

With over 100 companies represented at the fair, this fair is considered the biggest career fair in Central Massachusetts. Both Kowalyzck and McGuiggan will be on hand at the fair to personally introduce students to company representatives.
