This spring semester the sophomore class welcomes new class president, Frank Galligan. Galligan will be replacing previous SGA Sophomore Class President Christy Wheeler, who moved back to her home state of Ohio. Many are probably finding out right now for the first time.

There is no doubt Wheeler will be missed, as everyone echoes the same sentiments. "I thought she was a good president. Nobody even ran against her," said Sophomore Shayna Reed.

This is a point the new president, Galligan, also makes. He was surprised when he found out the week before finals last semester that Wheeler was leaving. That Wheeler ran unopposed, Galligan notes, shows the kind of respect she had. He has come to find out firsthand the kind of job she did after taking over her position following Christmas Break.

Galligan admits he had to put serious thought into accepting the position, which, by the SGA rules, is automatically offered to him first since he was the Vice President. Since every executive of SGA is also a Senator, he would have to make time for all the Senate meetings, as well as being the head of the newly added Class Assemblies Board, which is concerned with class events and fund-raisers such as last semester's soiré.

Galligan is adamant about continuing to address student concerns and about filling some big shoes.

"She was dynamite pretty much," he says of Wheeler. Frank is an energetic guy who calls you "Buddy," even if he knows your name, and for being the guy who stepped up when the student body needed him.

With Frank moving to the president position, the Vice President position had to be filled. The position was open to all of the sophomore class Senators, and after being nominated, Adam Reiss won the vote. This makes him a new part of the Executive Board. As for the added responsibility, Reiss said, "I see it as a challenge...but it's something I enjoy." Adam says there are big plans in SGA, including a possible newsletter in the future. One thing that won't be questioned is his dedication.

In keeping with the theme of added SGA members, Laurie Cadigan, with her contagious and bubbly personality, ran last year for a position on SGA, and just barely missed the opportunity. With one position on the Senate open, Erica Tolles, the 2007 SGA class advisor, informed Laurie that since she was the first runner-up in the election, she was the first to be offered the open position. She said she was surprised, excited, but not too nervous, and more than willing to accept the position. She now balances a double major and the meetings every week, but says she's handling it just fine because she has a flexible schedule, and is looking forward to doing what she can for the student body.

Wheeler has left some big shoes to fill, and it goes without saying that she will be missed, but the sophomore class has a dedicated new staff.
