Well, that's not exactly what START stands for, but I am sure it is the common question that many of you have when you see those posters. If you have ever asked yourself this question, ask no more! START is a retreat we have here at Assumption that was established about seven years ago by students who wanted to have a "weekend getaway" for their fellow students to de-stress, reflect on themselves, and meet some friendly faces.
Now, I am sure that when you hear the word "retreat" you probably think, "Oh no! I am NOT going on that. All they do is talk about God and pray 24/7!"
Well, that's exactly what I thought until October of my freshman year. That was when I went on the START 1 retreat and, looking back on it now, it was one of the best times I have had here at Assumption. I had all kinds of fun laughing at *****, enjoying *****with everyone, and some other awesome games that allowed me to meet some of my best friends. If any of this appeals to you, just think of how amazing it will be when you can actually understand what all of *****s mean because you went on the retreat. In fact, you are in luck because there is one coming up March 18th-19th. I can tell you that I would give anything to have the chance to be able to recapture the memories from START 1 from the beginning.
It seems that as we get older, times flies by so much quicker. I can't even tell you how scary it is knowing that I am almost done with my junior year. And, knowing the sore subject it is, I can't even imagine what the seniors are thinking right now. Having their "100 Days Party," getting a little dose of reality this past Friday, probably means they could use something to take a little stress off their shoulders. And wouldn't you know - I have just the solution...the Senior Retreat. That's right, just another one of the wonderful things Campus Ministry has to offer to our students.
With a little adaptation from the START 1 retreat, about 50 seniors will have a chance to get away this Friday night, relax, take a trip down memory lane, and make more memories to add to their collection. As I was walking through Charlie's last week, I overheard one of the seniors say, "You can't buy memories!" I couldn't say it better myself. Thanks to Campus Ministry, students are given more chances to make memories through retreats such as START 1 and the Senior Retreat, as well as many other awesome events and activities. And it's with the help of 12 of your fellow students that most of these events happen...and it couldn't be done without them.
