It's Valentine's season. Love is in the air. Unfortunately common sense and logic are lying lethargically on the ground. Yes, in a season in which earlier in the week, fifteen percent of women sent themselves flowers, and one hundred percent of women sobbed openly at the end of a Patrick Swayze movie, there is a new scourge sweeping through the ranks of womanhood like an estrogen parade.
Once again, this assault on my sense of what is reasonable derives from the two bastions of femininity dreaded by every man: the creators of Sex and the City and Oprah's book club. Suffice to say, these are two of the most powerful entities ever known to mankind, as they mercilessly control half of the world's population in a Res. Life style dictatorial regime. Anywhere women speak, act, watch, or read, they are there, behind the scenes, pulling the strings, and laughing at the men swimming haplessly in their wake. Alright, maybe not all women, but more than you might think.
The latest? A 165 page relationship guide by Sex and the City writer Greg Behrendt (or as I know him: the worst man in the world), and cohort Liz Tuccillo entitled He's Just Not That Into You. Seems innocuous enough, but don't be fooled. In reality, it's little more than a question and answer handbook for the illogical and those devoid of common sense. If you haven't heard of it yet, believe me, you will. If you think that everything you'll ever need to know about relationships can't possibly be explained in a concise 165 pages, believe me, you're right.
He's Just Not That Into You markets itself as a no-nonsense relationship guide for women-a premise ridiculous enough in and of itself. Let's be reasonable here. If you need an Oprah-endorsed book to explain how to live in the real world, then it's not going well; you're already way behind the rest of us, and most small mammals. And if you need this book, in particular, to explain how to live in the real world, then you need to throw in the towel and live by yourself-in a cave, in the dark, away from society.
