To the Editor:
Thank you for publishing the article written by Kristen Caretta ("Too much protection leaves less room for safe decisions," Issue 8) on the subject of decision-making about sex. In response to concerns raised by administrators and students during the fall semester, we had already been giving serious thought to reinstating programming addressing these issues prior to the publication of the February 2nd issue of Le Provocateur.
Historically, on at least two occasions, Assumption has offered a series addressing sexual behavior within relationships and decision-making, as we are a Catholic institution and our ethics have led us to that dialogue. Kristen's article is timely in that it prompts us to move forward. Our hope is to look at human sexuality from the broad perspective of Catholic teaching and to draw up a plan to respond to the obvious need by providing a comprehensive approach to the issues raised in Kristen's article. Our desire is to educate and invite all students to participate in the dialogue on this important topic.
