I can hardly believe my time at Assumption is almost over. There are many memorable experiences that I will take with me when I graduate in May. Adding to my memories of senior year thus far was the Senior START Retreat that was held on February 18th and 19th. Fifty seniors from the class of 2005 attended a 24-hour retreat at the Oakhurst Retreat Center in Whitinsville, MA. The flyers around campus advertising the Senior Retreat said "get off campus, bond with your class, reflect on your years at AC, and grow in your faith," and we did just that.
The Senior Retreat team was made up of 16 seniors that met every week leading up to the 18th to prepare for this retreat. We tried to make it different then all other retreats for the other 33 seniors that would be attending. There were also many other people that aided in the success of the Senior Retreat such as the START Community, Stephanie McCaffrey, Sister Cathleen, and the awesome kitchen crew. Thanks for adding yet another memorable experience for us to cherish.
Each of us walked a way from the Senior Retreat with something different. Whether it was a new friend, a reconnection with an old friend, a stronger faith, or a time to reflect on time spent at AC or the future, we each left with a new community to which we belong.
During this 24-hour period we left all the stress we had at Assumption, and forgot about the job searching and resume fixing. We were all able to share stories about ourselves and about our journey while at AC. We spent time laughing and rejuvenating ourselves for our final months at Assumption.
What is the START Retreat Program all about? If you are asking yourself that question, then my advice would be to step out of your comfort zone and give it a shot. The next START I Retreat is March 15th and 16th, and the deadline to register is March 1st.
I am not going to give specific details about the Senior Retreat because I want you to experience a START Retreat for yourself. Sure it can be nerve-wracking not knowing what you are getting yourself into. Even the seniors going on the Senior Retreat were apprehensive about attending and meeting new people, and to think almost everyone has attended school here for four years. Senior Katie Waszak agreed that the Senior Retreat was a great experience that she would never forget.
