At the Student Government Association Senate Meeting last Sunday, February 27th, Vice President of Student Life Catherine WoodBrooks and Ted Paulauskas were asked to come discuss the reasoning behind the disbanding of the Assumption College Track and Field Team. As representatives of the student body, we felt it was important for them to discuss this issue with us. WoodBrooks gave a brief presentation regarding their decision and then the floor was open for discussion.

Very rarely do we have visitors at our Senate Meeting, but on this night there were approximately 100 students who came to show their support for the Track Team. These students included members of the Track Team as well as many other concerned students. This was by far the most impressive thing that I have seen at a Senate Meeting during my four years on SGA. I would like to thank all of you who came to the meeting to show your support and voice your concerns, I believe it made a very powerful statement. Hopefully, this will show the administration that this is not a decision we support, nor take lightly and we will continue to work towards what we believe is right.

The following is a letter I have written to WoodBrooks and Paulauskas explaining the discontent among the members of the Student Government Association as well as many of our peers regarding how the process was handled:

"Dear Catherine and Ted,

On behalf of the Student Government Association, acting in our official duty as representatives of the student body, I would like to express our discontent with the administrative handling of the Assumption College Track Team dissolution. Our current discontent derives from the lack of communication provided by the Athletic Department and Student Life Leadership to the Assumption Community including students, faculty, and alumni. When the possibility of the elimination of the Track Team arose, the student body should have been an active participant in discussions through public forums and SGA interaction as to how our priorities and tuition dollars would be exercised. This decision does not simply affect the Athletic or Student Life Departments but it also drastically changes the opportunities and lifestyles of students at this college.
