AC Dean is also true blue alum

Bob Ravenelle could never forget the response he received from Assumption College when his mother, Rita, became terminally ill during his sophomore year in 1984.

"While I spent a great deal of time at the hospital, my friends, neighbors, and classmates did my laundry, cooked meals, and even donated platelets for my mom. My professors and other administrators at the College aided me with my class work and other responsibilities during my mom's illness and after," said Dean of Students Ravenelle.

Ravenelle's mother passed away September 19, 1984. While Ravenelle suffered greatly from his loss, the support he received from Assumption was endless.

Today, he strives to pay back what Assumption once gave him by interacting with students and co-workers, balancing a variety of responsibilities, and making administrative decisions.

"The greatest challenge of my job is trying to ensure that we have a fair and expeditious judicial process in place that yields fair and appropriate decisions that will protect the rights of the students and the expectations of the community within the context of our Conduct Code," said Ravenelle.

In order to help make policies fairer and get students more involved Ravenelle and other administrators have developed a Policy and Review Committee. The committee reviews current policies, procedures, and the Assumption College Handbook.

The committee consists of four students, each representing their class, as well as other faculty members. Among the topics discussed are the Culpability Policy, Drug Policy, Fire and Safety Policy, and the Alcohol Policy.

"The purpose of the college policy is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where a student can develop academically, socially, and spiritually," said Ravenelle.

Senior Allison Reyell is one of the students who is lucky enough to be on the committee.
