Ambrose at Bat...Again

A very sporty Spring Break

Issue date: 3/1/05 Section: Sports
As Spring Break quickly approaches - in case you didn't already have a countdown, there are only two days after today that stand between you and your Spring Break - you may think it is already too late to plan anything fun to do on that week long break from Assumption life. It is true that trips to South Padre have been planned since mid-October - although those going may still be awaiting departure information - and it will probably be hard to find a spot on a cruise with two days notice - let alone get that body into a bathing suit - all is not lost.

There are plenty of Spring Break opportunities when you get into the mind-set that maybe heat isn't a necessity and that you might rather be seen in a snowsuit than a bathing suit. Yes, people, we do live in New England. So, why not embrace that and head North to Loon Mountain for a day-trip, a weekend-get-away, or even - if the funds allow - a weeklong celebration in the snow.

During the week, lift tickets at Loon are only $52 per adult/per day - significantly less than you may spend on a weekend at, ahem, the bar. If you weren't a Peekaboo Street in your earlier days and you don't have the best equipment to hit the slopes with, don't worry, Loon let's you rent. So, for about a total of $100 you are hitting the slopes in style.

Okay, so skiing isn't your thing - too much opportunity for injury. So hit the slopes with something else strapped to your feet - snowshoes. I'm going to guess that there is the smallest population of people that own their own snowshoes. Grab a friend, head-up to Loon, rent a couple pairs, and get a great workout while taking in all the sights and sounds of the winter season.

So, now you say, "All that's great, but I'm not down with the cold." Well, then in that case, don't head up North. Try heading into Boston and take a visit to The Sports Museum of New England. Open 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday with a price of only $6 per adult, how can you really go wrong? During a year when New England has the greatest baseball team and greatest football team in the world, it seems only fitting to check out the history that led up to the history that you were a part of.
