Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, Little more than a month now remains before the November election. While, in the past, the Left could rightly boast of the greater enthusiasm for their ticket, John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his vice presidential pick has generated almost the same level of excitement for his own ticket on the Right, not the least part of which is the increase both in my own hope and my interest in the race.

New Admissions House a hit

Presentation. As someone who works in the Assumption College Admissions Office, I hear a lot about presentation. Everything from tour routes to the letters and brochures you get as prospective college students are analyzed for their presentation and whether they would leave a positive, lasting impression.

For Your Consideration

Thoughts from the Editor's Desk
According to S.G.A., over 200 Assumption students either applied for an absentee ballot or registered to vote last week at the information booth in the Hagan Campus Center. I was one of them. By signing on that dotted line I now have the power to vote, or to "rock the vote," as MTV would so rebelliously put it.

Feminist refuses to support Palin

I am a woman. I am a feminist. And I am fuming. I do not believe that Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain, could have made a more disparaging, more insulting or more chauvinistic vice presidential pick than Sarah Palin. Yes, she is a woman. But she does not stand for women.

L.C. at AC

"People want to be madly in love & passionately desired. But what we remember longest are kindnesses." Once I read this quote, it really gave me a lot to think about. Undeniably, everyone wants to be loved, wanted and feel appreciated. I think we need to consider if love constitutes the single most important thing to us, or if kindnesses are what we will end up remembering most.

Not many students in Charlie's 'til midnight

Since the start of school Charlie's hours have been extended from the usual closing time of 11 p.m. to a new closing time of midnight. During the extended hours the grill and deli sections are closed. However, students can still order wings, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and many other foods.

Freshman questions if college is high school all over again?

The definition of freshman, according to urbandictionary.com is a first year student in high school or college that tends to travel in large packs for protection. For some reason, upperclassmen seem to think that freshmen are the lowest form of human beings to ever walk the earth.

One Last Round

Procrastinate (verb) - To postpone doing something, especially as a regular practice. Also see delay or defer. Odd, because I would have assumed the Oxford English Dictionary would have made my name synonymous with the often used term. Hell, I'll make a sweeping generalization and say "college student" should pop up on the thesaurus list.

Ad-Essay #2: Does Color Exist?

It's time to demythologize two cultures. On Wall Street, the culture is one of profit, even greedy profit. But, because people do not understand that money is a cultural myth, even large-bank CEO's failed to understand what has been going on. In the academic world, the culture is one of uncritical acquiescence in the myth of autonomous, a-philosophical disciplines.

Honest to Blog

Now that I'm a senior, I have begun to ponder life's important questions: where am I going in the future? What is my true calling? Will I have ugly babies if I don't adopt some adorable foreign baby? (I want whatever agency Brad and Angelina go through.) Among all these deep and philosophical thoughts, one question stood out to me, and I can't stop thinking about it: Why aren't I a celebrity? I realize I'm making myself an easy punch line here, and you can insert any stab you would like at my looks or likability -- but really, why not me? Or why not you? Why do some people become famous while others attend Assumption College and pray that they won't end up working at Starbucks while composing their novel? I have thought about this question in depth, and come up with some reasons why my name never ended up in lights.
