Isaiah Thomas, a former NBA all-star and a fan favorite of the Celtics franchise, returned to the courts with the Salt Lake City Stars, which is the G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. On Jan. 28, Thomas dropped 40 points, and had eight assists in their game against the Valley Suns, who are an affiliate of the Phoenix Suns.

Isaiah Thomas became a favorite of many Celtics fans when he was traded to the team in 2015. The 5 foot 9 point guard led the Celtics to the playoffs for three consecutive years and was named into the “NBA All-Star team” twice during his years on the Celtics. In the 2017 NBA playoffs, Thomas led the Celtics to a first-round victory over the Chicago Bulls, just days after his sister tragically passed away in a car accident. Thomas continued to play and give it his all in the playoffs until two games into the Eastern Conference Finals, when he was ruled out due to a hip injury. After the 2017 season, Thomas was traded for Kyrie Irving, even despite still showing up for the Celtics when he was injured and grieving. Thomas stated in a post-game interview with Boston.com, “I felt like I had a relationship with the people who make those decisions. I felt like we were close enough to where we could chop it up and you could talk to me about it, or about what possibly could happen. That never happened, so I was upset about that.”

Thomas’s determination and love for the game of basketball are evident on the court as he showcases his talents. As the season progresses, fans of Thomas have taken to X to show their love and support stating, “MY GOAT IS BACK” and “Boston, You might have to get him back.” Many Celtics fans are hoping to sign Thomas to the team and bring him back to the NBA. In a 2021 post-game interview with Boston.com, Thomas states, “I know at some point, my opportunity will come and I’m going to take full advantage of it and I’m going to run with it.” Many basketball fans are hoping that opportunity for Thomas is now.
