Drake Maye has a new mentor. I have talked in heavy detail about rookie quarterback, Drake Maye, this year and in the Provoc. Ashton Grant, who is an Assumption alum, has been hired as the new Patriots quarterback coach, and while this is a great opportunity for Grant, Maye might be the one who got lucky.

Grant, who is Assumption’s leader in receiving touchdowns (36) and receiving yards (3,204), is from the Assumption pipeline of coaches who have had a lot of recent success on the college level. Now, he gets a shot to prove his coaching prowess by developing the newest gunslinger in the NFL. Grant will be assisted by longtime NFL offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, who brought many championships to the area, with some sixth rounder from Michigan as the quarterback. Grant is surrounded by knowledgeable coaches and years of in the league experience from head coach, Mike Vrabel.

Grant coached for College of the Holy Cross with Bob Chesney, who recruited him at Assumption. Chesney was recently hired to be James Madison University’s new head coach. Together, Grant and Chesney brought multiple NE-10 championships to Assumption’s program. Chesney describes Grant as “an unstoppable force out on the field.”

It is exciting to see an Assumption alum make it big with our beloved Patriots. It is safe to say that both Grant and the Patriots should make a great match and bring winning success back to One Patriot Place.
