With the trade deadline approaching, the Bruins made some drastic changes to their roster this past week.

On Tuesday, the team traded Trent Frederic and Max Jones to the Oilers. Two days later, forward Justin Brazeau was sent to the Wild in exchange for forward Marat Khusnutdinov, a 2026 6th round pick, and former Bruins forward Jakub Lauko.

The next day, the team announced four more major trades, some of which being extremely controversial. Weymouth native Charlie Coyle was sent to the Avalanche, careerlong Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo was sent to the Leafs, and most shockingly, captain Brad Marchand was sent to the Panthers.

The fact that the organization would choose to make so many changes to the roster is not surprising, considering the current season has not been the team’s best. However, these trades were shocking.

The reaction to the Marchand trade was especially negative due to his 16-year career in Boston and the team’s playoff losses to the Panthers in the last two years.

Marchand made his gratitude for his time in Boston clear in a full-page letter to the Boston Globe. “Representing this city as captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of my life…“Boston will always be a part of me, and it will always be a part of my family,” Marchand said.
