Study Tips for Finals Week

Just like that, we have come to the end of another semester at Assumption. However, with final exams and projects approaching, it can be both an exciting and dreadful time in our college experience. To help take the burden off of preparing for your final assignments in your courses, try following these study tips.

1). Don’t Cram at the Last Minute

Start studying earlier rather than later. Although the study day that Assumption gives us might tempt you to take the day to relax, you should utilize it to begin organizing your notes and outlining what you need to study.

2). Make a Study Schedule

Try to space out when you are going to study which content and when you are going to write certain papers. Create a timeline of when you want certain parts of your paper to be completed or when you want to have a certain amount of content memorized for an exam.

3). Make a Quizlet

This study tool can be useful for exams where you have to memorize large amounts of information from the entire semester. Create study sets for exams that have quote identification questions, textbook terms, pictures of people or objects you need to identify, and so forth.

4). Break Content Up

Don’t try and study everything in an hour and expect to have it memorized. For papers, don’t try and write it in one sitting and expect it to be your best work. Write one paragraph at a time, then take a break, and for studying, break the content up into sections and take a break between each section.

5). Allow Yourself to Use Your Phone

I’m sure if you’ve read an article like this before, you were told to put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” or to put it in another room. This is not something you should try and make yourself do. Phones can be a distraction, and it is hard for us to focus when they aren’t with us. So, utilize them. While you’re studying, charge your phone. Make a group chat with people in your class to ask questions about content you are unsure about. And, most importantly, reward yourself with a TikTok scroll to take your mind off studying.

Many people tend to be checked out by this point in the semester, but if you try using some of these tips, you may make your studying more enjoyable and rewarding. Just think, after that one long week of exams, you get a close to four-month summer break.

Best of luck on your final exams and projects. See you back in the Fall, Hounds!
