As I am writing this, it is snowing outside and under 25 degrees. It is a Saturday in February, the perfect time to write about the PGA golf season coming up. Last year, there were insane twists and turns to the season. Xander Schauffele won two majors, followed by one of the greatest stretches of golf we have ever seen in Scottie Scheffler. Barring his unwarranted arrest during the season, he played a virtuously flawless season of golf. This season, we look to Scheffler once again to win player of the year.

In April, the best annual golf tournament arrives, the Master’s in Augusta. This year will be interesting, as we saw numerous LIV golf players finish in the top ten. While controversial, it will provide a competitive field of players. In September, there will be one of the most competitive tournaments known as the Ryder Cup.

In the Ryder Cup, there is a US team and a European team. In 2023, Team USA was decimated early on, but made a respectable comeback later in the tournament. The tournament was held in Europe, where Team USA routinely loses. Team USA has not won on European soil since 1993. This year, the tournament is in New York. Team captain, Keegan Bradley, is looking to put together a team to beat the Europeans. This will be complicated, as both LIV and PGA players look to make the team this year. In the politics of golf, 2025 will be more controversial than ever.

This season will be entertaining because in the first two weeks of the season, long-time veterans, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, who are coincidentally best friends, have gotten off to extremely strong starts. They are known as an electric tandem when paired together in the Ryder Cup.

LIV golfers, Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland, should be watched closely for their performances this season. DeChambeau is widely regarded as a strong driver in the competition and when Hovland gets it going, he might be the toughest to break. Both of them will be on the Ryder Cup teams and both will finish high at all the major tournaments. Look for them to challenge Scheffler this season.
