Stitch Was There!

If you are like me, then the Super Bowl is one of the most important days of the year. It embodies the spirit of the country where we all come together and root against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Super Bowl brings in viewers from around the world all to watch the two best teams in football fight for the Lombardi trophy, but along with all these viewers comes the chance for companies to put in their advertisements and put a stamp on the game with their own commercials. This year specifically, there were a ton of memorable commercials.
At the start of the game, Stitch was seen running around the field, and for a second I could have sworn he was real. This commercial was for the new live action “Lilo and Stitch” movie coming out this summer.
Later in the game, Bud Light released their Super Bowl commercial featuring famous comedian Shane Gillis, musical artist Post Malone, and 2-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Peyton Manning. Gillis and Malone were firing beers all over their neighborhood inviting people to their cookout. These men were termed “Big Men on Cul-De-Sac.” The commercial dressed up Gillis and Malone as typical suburban dads with high socks and shirts tucked into their jorts. The perfect role for Gillis. It combined humorous lines like Gillis saying he had a colonoscopy tomorrow and that the HOA was breathing down his neck.
Being from Massachusetts, I was born with a Dunkin’ coffee addiction. Of course, we remember last year when Tom Brady was featured with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the Dunkings commercial. This year, Dunkin’ did it up again with their drippy vintage jacket and pants, bringing out the scariest looking man in football history, Bill Belichick. On top of the famous Bostonians featured, was another social media star, Druski and these guys proved that beans, water, and a little bit of northeastern anger makes Dunkin’ the best coffee.
Sticking with the Boston theme was the Stella Artois commercial. David Beckham was featured, and Matt Damon was “other David” who Beckham’s parents left in America. Beckham visits Damon at his cookout and teaches him about buffalo wings, that they are made of chicken and not buffalo. Beckham did not get it. Damon’s friends at the cookout throw him a football and tell him to punt it and he sends it into orbit, confirming that they are long lost twins.
Super Bowl commercials provide fans with the opportunity to see stars all over the big screen in typical football commercials. These catch our eye and get us to watch them intently as we usually only minor stars in regular football commercials. It provides a new source of entertainment even when the game is not being played. Super Bowl commercials are a great addition to the entertainment of the Super Bowl.
