Stories, Faces, and Places
Spring ’25 Speech Course
How well do you know your classmates? Assumption is a small university and by the time we graduate, almost everyone is a familiar face. But do we really know the stories of those around us?
On March 26th in Pierre’s Pub, the members of Professor Knoles’ speech class will host a conversation with students who are first- and second-generation members of immigrant families. Speakers will include Ngoc Nguyen, Yahya Malallah, Randy Guarango, Yaire Hernandez, Zenab Najjar, and Shekinah Kanamugire Akeza, and they will be interviewed about their families’ experiences immigrating to the United States and their own experiences at Assumption.
The goal of this project is to help members of the Assumption community form stronger bonds with one another by learning one another’s stories.
In addition, the project organizers hope that this conversation will allow audience members to better understand the challenges these students face, the support they deserve, the contributions they make to the college and the country, and the dreams they have for the future.
With the current tension in the country over issues related to immigration, it is more important than ever for their voices to be heard.
If you wish to take part in this event, just be sure to respond to the registration form you will soon find in your email.
If on the day of the event, seats are still free, they will be made available to walk-in guests on a first-come first-served basis. Please join us to listen, ask questions, and perhaps share your own family’s immigration story.
