This was a very great premier for the spin-off of “Suits”. First, let me quickly summarize “Suits” before diving into my opinions of “Suits L.A.”. In the original Suits, the show followed a group of lawyers out of New York, and it was full of drama, comedy, and emotion. The original had eleven seasons and was one of the best shows during its run time. Though, I must admit, the last three seasons left a lot on the table and seriously could have been better. Anyway, on to “Suits L.A.”

The main character of  “Suits L.A.” is Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell. He is a  charismatic former federal prosecutor turned L.A. entertainment lawyer, having to navigate  Hollywood’s cutthroat legal world.

About twenty minutes into the first episode, Ted loses his firm to his former partner, Stuart Lane, portrayed by Josh McDermitt, after a misleading merger gone wrong. Black is forced to turn to one of his promising rising lawyers, Erica Rollins, played by Lex Scott Davis. She is a sharp and witty corporate and entertainment lawyer, who potentially has a hidden agenda.

Rollins is tasked with aiding Black to recover his sinking firm before everything is lost. While Black’s firm is crumbling at his feet, he must face his past, as his father is dying, and deal with the trauma from his childhood. Additionally, Black is dealing with a high-stakes case for one of his clients in the film industry.

Overall, this first episode was great. It captivated the audience with its fast-paced drama,  and stunning L.A. skyline. The characters are not the same as “Suits”, however they fit their roles  perfectly.

As more episodes are released, the more the characters and plots can develop. I think “Suits L.A.” will produce similar results to the original show. Additionally, if “Suits L.A.” can keep the story interesting, fast-paced, and full of drama, then it could compete with “Suits”.
