Do you like musicals but don’t know which one to see first? Here are some great options coming nearby this fall!
“Hamilton” is a two hour and 45 minute play written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, a Puerto Rican lyricist, actor, and award winning composer. ‘Hamilton’ follows the story of the American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The songs are a genre of hip hop and R&B, each song singing about different characters or different events that took place in the 1700s.
Aaron Burr, Elizabeth Schuyler, George Washington, King George III and more are historical figures that are in the musical. Audiences get to understand historical viewpoints from each character’s perspective, making the musical both informative and fun.
‘Hamilton’ is currently on Broadway with an original cast member Leslie Odom Jr., who has returned to play Aaron Burr in NYC. “Hamilton” started back up in Boston on Sept. 23 and will be continuing until Nov. 2 of this year. ‘Hamilton’ will be performing at the Citizens Opera House if you want to buy tickets and check it out for yourself!
‘SIX the Musical’ is another historical play that is one hour and twenty minutes long. It is written by Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow, who also composed and wrote for the musical. ‘SIX the Musical’ focuses on Henry VIII’s six wives– Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.
This musical takes place from the late fifteenth century to the early seventeenth century, and focuses on the lives of each wife and what they endured while being with Henry VIII. The music genre for the songs are pop and the show gives the impression of a concert.
From Oct. 14 of this year to Oct. 19, they will be performing at the Hanover Theatre! If you want to see these powerful women come to life, then ‘SIX the Musical’ is the musical for you!
‘Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical’ is a stage adaptation based on the 1993 movie, which has the same name. ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ is a musical comedy written by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick. This musical is two hours and 35 minutes long.
‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ is about a man who went through a messy divorce, and created an alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in his children’s lives. This is a heartfelt musical and shows that a person would do anything in order to stay in their loved ones’ lives. The music genre for this play is of pop with some funny lyrics within the songs. This musical is in Boston at the Emerson Colonial Theatre. It started on Sept. 18 of this year and will be gone from Boston on Sept. 21.
