The Denecker Career and Development & Internship Center on Assumption’s campus is an essential resource for students during their four years as a Greyhound. Whether you are a freshman looking for an on-campus job or a senior preparing to apply to graduate school or full-time jobs, the CDIC is here to help you find your path to success.
Located on the ground level of Alumni Hall, the CDIC is led by Director Shannon Curtis and Associate Director Alicia Moquin. They sponsor events on campus ranging from the Career Fair to Alumni Networking Night.
Last month, students were able to attend the Fall Career Fair, which included 59 different employers. Senior Meadow Taylor shared her experience, saying, “It was great to be able to talk to hiring staff for these companies directly because they really seem like they will remember you if you apply for the job. I also had someone tell me to email them if I end up applying because they will make sure to personally look at my application.”
The CDIC also has an immersive website for Assumption students. Moquin redesigned the website in 2024 and calls it a “virtual career center.”
On the website, students can access resume templates, learn how to write a cover letter, and learn how to apply to graduate school, among other valuable resources. Curtis said, “The virtual career center, Career Success, provides Assumption students with 24/7 access to personalized career resources and guidance. It assists students with next steps in between their career advising meetings, supporting their long-term development.”
Regarding some of the resources offered by Career Success, Curtis said, “Career Success is more than just a website. It is an engagement tool designed to support students throughout their career development journey. Career Success connects students with job and internship opportunities, offers personalized career guidance, and provides insights into various career paths and industries through blogs, curated content, and Focus 2, a skills and interest-based assessment.”
Danielle Aiken, a senior and the Editor in Chief for Le Provocateur, has met with the CDIC on numerous occasions since her freshman year, and said, “My first year into my second involved a lot of figuring myself out–which I used the CDIC to help me along the way. As I first used services, such as Career Exploration or LinkedIn Profile Development, they were able to break down certain steps in the growth process that helped me feel better about the direction I was heading.”
Making an appointment with the CDIC couldn’t be easier, but it also couldn’t be more useful. Whether you need help crafting your resume, tailoring a cover letter for a specific job, want to participate in a mock interview, develop your graduate school essay and prepare to apply, or navigate the internship and job search process, Curtis encourages students to utilize all of the center’s resources.
She said, “We encourage students to engage early and often in their career development journey. The Denecker CDIC helps students to identify and plan meaningful experiences throughout their undergraduate experience. Starting early provides students with the opportunity to explore, take advantage of new opportunities, and discover their passions, purpose, and direction.”
It isn’t just about helping Assumption students for the employees at the CDIC; it is also about showcasing them. Each month, the CDIC spotlights students who have found success either through on-campus work or internship experience, in a series called “Highlighting Hounds.”
Senior Max Fuoco, who was featured on one of last year’s “Highlighting Hounds,” said, “To be featured in the ‘Highlighting Hounds’ blog was not only an honor but motivation towards the pursuit of success. Not only does it enhance the information provided to other professionals with a Google search of my name, but challenges students like me to spend time thinking about the aspects of campus life that lead to a greater future.”
Visit the CDIC at career.assumption.edu or in Alumni Hall, Monday–Friday, 8:30–4:30. Schedule through Handshake or email careerdevelopment@assumption.edu. As Curtis says, “It is always a good time to start thinking about your future. You do not need to have it all figured out. The Denecker CDIC is here to help and to guide, support, and provide valuable resources every step of the way.”
