“‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.’ Wrong. It’s attending SGA’s annual tree lighting,” junior Maryja Prytko said.

The annual Christmas tree lighting remains one of Assumption’s favorite campus events.

It signifies the end of the fall semester and creates excitement for the upcoming holiday season, bringing the community together one last time before final exams.

The tree lighting, which is annually sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), took place on Nov. 18 on the Hagan Lawn.

The night started with students singing Christmas carols in front of the tree. After a countdown from ten, the lighting of the tree was followed by cheers and applause. The holiday celebration then continued in Pierre’s Pub.

“I attended Assumption’s tree lighting last winter and it was a great experience! One of the reasons I chose Assumption was because of its small, close-knit community, and I really think the tree lighting ceremony resembled that. I enjoyed seeing everyone on campus come together for something fun during the stress of preparing for finals,” said Alison Insogna, who is from the class of 2028.

Keegan McLeod, a senior at Assumption, said, “The tree lighting is a great tradition that kicks off the Christmas season at Assumption and brings people together for a joyful moment.”

“The Tree Lighting is one of my favorite Assumption traditions! The whole school gathering to celebrate the official start to the holiday season creates an amazing community that sets Assumption apart,” said sophomore Connor Doyle.

Meredith Gendreau from the class of 2027 added, “The tree lighting is one of my favorite Assumption traditions because it’s a time for everyone on campus to gather and welcome the Christmas season. It also brings a lot of happiness to the school ahead of finals!”

“I always look forward to hearing the chorale sing and all of the excitement around the tree lighting. It’s one of my favorite events on campus,” said senior Lilly Dolan.

With another Assumption Christmas tree lighting in the books, it’s time to enjoy Thanksgiving break, prepare for finals, and get ready for Christmas. Good luck, Greyhounds, and happy holidays!
