As Christmas approaches, it’s time to settle once and for all the top five Christmas songs of all time!

  1. “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call” by Bleachers

Although this song is new in the zeitgeist of Christmas songs, “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call” has solidified itself as a top tier Christmas song. Much like “Last Christmas”, “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call” focuses on themes of love and heartbreak over nostalgic and catchy Christmas instrumentals. However, “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call” finds solace in the sadness of losing a partner.

  1. “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson

“Sleigh Ride” is a true Christmas classic. Anderson is able to capture all the elements of the holiday season in a robust symphony orchestra. Of course, the most iconic part being the slapstick! Since Anderson released the piece, “Sleigh Ride” has grown even further, with lyrics being added to it a few years after its release. This piece holds a special place in my heart as I got to play this with my high school’s symphony orchestra in my sophomore year of high school!

3. “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey

Would this be a true top five Christmas songs list if Mariah Carey wasn’t featured? The song is incredibly catchy, and Carey’s vocals put it over the top. The song’s popularity has been able to soar even higher with Carey posting comical videos to her social media on November 1st with the saying “It’s Time!” What started as videos in her living room have grown into large scale productions featuring celebrities such as Billy Eichner playing an elf in her most recent video.

2. “Wonderful Christmas Time” by Paul McCartney

“Wonderful Christmas Time”, takes a unique approach to balancing nostalgic Christmas sounds with synth instrumentals. This is what makes this song so iconic and iconic. It fully hones into the happy and nostalgic elements of the holiday season, allowing you to fully indulge in the cheery feeling of the holiday season.

  1. “Last Christmas” by Wham!

Last Christmas is a classic through and through. The lyrics are catchy and resonate with listeners on a personal level. The sleigh bells and synths are the cherry on top of such a catchy melody and compelling storyline. Its legacy has lived on through covers by major artists like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

Whether you agree with my list or not, it’s important that you blast your favorite holiday songs and sing them at the top of your lungs! Happy Holidays Hounds!
