Last month, the NHL held the Four Nations Face-Off, a round-robin style tournament featuring NHL players from the US, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. This series took the place of the NHL All-Star game.
The first three games were played at Bell Centre in Montréal and the last two at TD Garden in Boston. Despite losing to the US 3-1 in Montréal, Canada made a comeback in Boston. The team ended up beating the US 3-2 and winning the tournament in overtime after a thrilling game. The winning goal was scored by Oilers captain, Connor McDavid. This was a really memorable moment, as McDavid’s team lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals last June.
Canada coach Jon Cooper, who also coaches the Tampa Bay Lightning, was proud of the win. “The players bore that on their shoulders and they took it seriously. This one was different. This wasn’t a win for themselves. This was a win for 40-plus million people, and the guys knew it, and they delivered,” Cooper shared with The New York Times.
The series was received well by fans from all over the world, and in my opinion, should become an NHL tradition.
