First Year Community Bonding: Desautels Hall

Desautels Hall is one of the many options freshmen get for their dorm. Let’s look inside!
When you walk in, you’re greeted with the common room which contains a couch and armchairs, which is a good place to work on group projects, or hangout with your friends. I like to go there sometimes and talk to my family or friends on the phone!
When you’re on the floor where students reside, you can see festive name tags on the doors. For the spring/Easter time, the name tags are pieces of candy! We also sometimes decorate for holidays like Valentine’s Day, where streamers were put up on one of the walls, and the bathroom mirrors were decorated, and even said “love” on the mirrors!
You also have a laundry room with two washers and two dryers, and a sink to wash cups and fill water pitchers.
On my floor, there’s multiple bulletin boards filled with flyers for on campus activities, and tips for improving your mental health and how to be successful academically. Our floor also has fun activities, like door decorating, and floor movie night that our RA’s host!
Then there’s the actual dorms! Though quite small and humid, there’s a lot of ways to make your space personalized and comfortable! For instance, I have twinkly lights to create a cozy atmosphere. We also have a rug to make our space feel homier. My friends and I like to eat at Chick-fil-A and hangout in their room, so we can enjoy each other’s company in a comfortable space.
In some rooms, you get a lovely view of the quad outside which is a bonus during the spring and summer!
Moreover, Desautels Hall has allowed for a tight community to form amongst its residents!
