Assumption University’s Cybersecurity Club marked a major milestone this October with its first-ever field trip; a journey to Cleveland, Ohio, to take part in the Information Security  Summit (October 28–31, 2025). The trip coincided with National Cybersecurity Awareness  Month, giving students a hands-on way to celebrate and deepen their engagement with the ever evolving field of cybersecurity.

The four-day summit brought together industry leaders, professionals, and educators to discuss  the latest trends and challenges in information security. Among the presenters was Dr. Selvan Snow, who led several training sessions during the event. The initiative was organized in  collaboration with the Assumption University Center for Cybersecurity and Dr. Snow and Dr. Raymond Albert, were both instrumental in mentoring and guiding the student-led effort.

A total of nine Cybersecurity Club members planned, organized, and executed the trip. This includes securing funding and logistics to ensuring transportation readiness. Two members even  completed van certification to make the road trip possible.

“This was a true team effort,” said members. “Students took ownership of the entire  process: planning, coordination, and participation, which reflects exactly the kind of  leadership and initiative we strive to foster.”

Beyond attending the summit, the trip also served as a launching point for an ambitious new  venture: the development of an Assumption University Cybersecurity Clinic. Modeled after  the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics, the proposed clinic aims to provide cybersecurity  support and consulting services to local governments, non-profits, and small businesses, while giving students real-world experience tackling cybersecurity challenges.

“This experience has energized our members and opened doors for future collaborations,” said  one club representative. “It’s exciting to see how classroom learning can directly connect to  community impact.”

With its successful debut field trip, the Cybersecurity Club has set a new precedent for experiential learning at Assumption University, which ultimately includes combining academic excellence, professional  growth, and community engagement in one transformative experience.
