The Assumption Greyhound women’s basketball team delivered a strong season, finishing with an 20-8 overall record and earning the No. 3 spot in the NE10 Conference standings. Throughout the year, the Greyhounds proved their ability to close out tight games, including late-season victories over the Saint Anselm Hawks (53-48) and the Southern Connecticut State Owls (54-48), as they battled through a competitive schedule.
Led by head coach Kerry Phayre, the Greyhounds embraced an up-tempo and high-energy style of play. Despite having nine underclassmen on a 14-player roster, Assumption used its youth as a strength, pushing the pace in transition and relying on strong ball movement to find the hot hand on any given night.
This chemistry helped guide the Greyhounds through a competitive season. Assumption earned a bid in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament after a strong regular season and conference play, capping off a year of growth and resilience.
Graduate student Teagan Curran credited the team’s collective mindset and trust as key reasons for the program’s success this season.
“We take it day by day and game by game,” said Curran. “Everyone has a role and we need everyone. We have talented players, and an amazing coaching staff, and we know we can count on each other and trust each other.”
For Curran, one of three seniors alongside Olivia Found and Teagan Kamm, the season carried special meaning. The trio helped lead a young roster while leaving a lasting impact on the program.
“I really couldn’t ask for a better group of players and people to do it with,” Curran said. “We are very close off the court and that is what it is all about. I am just enjoying every moment that this group has together. I am so lucky to have my fellow seniors, Olivia Found and Teagan Kamm. We have been through all the highs and lows together. I am so lucky to have had them by my side for the past four years.”
While the Greyhound’s postseason run ended prematurely, the team’s strong regular season and development of its young roster helped to build momentum for the program looking towards next season.
