Women’s Ice Hockey Skates Towards the End of the Season

Women’s Ice Hockey skated past the competition this weekend as they brought an amazing pair of matchups with the Saint Anselm’s College Hawks. On Friday, February 7th, the Greyhounds shut out the Hawks 2-0 in Worcester. One player worth highlighting from this game is Heather Ajakie. Ajakie scored two goals, one in the second period and another during an impressive penalty kill in the third period. Another star player in this game was goalie Jadyn Weiser, who made 40 saves during the game, completing the Hounds’ first shutout of the season. On Saturday, February 8th, the Hounds headed to the Hawks’ home ice to play another tense game, this time resulting in a 3-4 loss despite a close third period. An exciting moment from the game was the Hounds’ first goal with only five minutes left in the period, scored by Ava McGaffigan, with assists from her sister, Kayla, and Ajakie.
It is hard to believe that the Greyhounds’ second season as a Division I team is coming to a close soon, with only four games left in the season before the NEWHA Tournament. Recently, the team also won two games against Saint Michael’s College. The fans were encouraged to wear blue to Friday’s game for the “Blueout” theme, and Saturday’s game was focused on celebrating the team’s seniors. Assumption’s next two games will be against Stonehill College at the Worcester Ice Center at 2:50pm on Friday, February 21st, and at Bridgewater Ice Arena at 1pm on Saturday, February 22nd.
