National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Steph Curry is taking his talents to the cinema next year, producing the new animated film, “GOAT.” Coming to theaters in Feb. of next year, Curry released the film’s official poster on X, writing, “A lot of debate but there can only be one GOAT.”
Curry, who is in his sixteenth NBA season, announced the film during this year’s NBA All-Star Weekend, which took place at his home arena for the Golden State Warriors. The film, which is a year away from release, will hit theaters in coincidence with next year’s NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
“GOAT” is a sports comedy that Curry is producing with Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film wants to appeal to families and sports fans, hoping to uplift audiences with “diverse characters and heartwarming storylines that will have you rooting for the underdog.”
Curry’s production company, Unanimous Media, is associated with the film. Erick Peyton is serving as a producer under the company. Other producers include Michelle Raimo Kouyate, Adam Rosenberg, and Rodney Rothman.
Curry is not new to the production industry, despite being known for his three-pointers and four NBA Championships. He stars in the upcoming mockumentary series, “Mr. Throwback,” in which he also served as an executive producer. He was also an executive producer of the animated series, “Good Times,” which streams on Netflix.
No official plot or cast has been announced for the film yet, but with Curry behind the wheel, it is sure to have a wide variety of stars joining the lineup. The film will be directed by Tyree Dillihay and written by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley.
