Student organizations, the base of student to student connection, experience, and fun, are of the utmost necessity to one’s college life. Especially at Assumption, student organizations mean so much to our student population.
With so many clubs, activities, and government agencies creating many of our major events, there is a buzz on campus that can solely be linked to Assumption’s strong base of student organizations.
A major piece to many student’s social lives outside of the classroom, serving as a reinforced connection to campus-life and Assumption’s ideals as a university, organizations, no matter how big or small, truly tie the bow on a college academic experience.
They connect us to peers, open up our eyes to new interests, and allow us to find ourselves in the process. Here’s my story with Assumption’s student organizations and why it boosts your life both professionally and academically.
First stepping foot on campus in the fall of 2024 and feeling like I was in a completely different world, for me, it was a unique but also daunting experience. Growing up in a small city adjacent to Boston, where I had been around the same group of people for 12 years, a new environment as a timid freshman surely wasn’t easy.
Even though I was meeting a ton of new faces in my classes and getting close with new friends in the fall semester, I still felt like there was a void in my experience on campus. Finding myself doing the same routines and staying very close to the dorm, it wasn’t until the late fall that I finally found my “in” into the excitement of student organizations at Assumption.
I received an email from the Editor in Chief of Le Provocateur, Danielle Aiken, about the opening of an editorial position. Even though I had not written for the newspaper before, this opportunity was very appealing.
After being convinced by my friends and family to do something that used my skills as a writer, while also giving me the opportunity to meet new people from various classes, I took the risk and signed up.
I was lucky enough to get an interview and be accepted. Looking back now, I didn’t even realize at that point the fun I was in for. As the spring semester rolled around and I began my position, though I was nervous, the people I met and the experiences I have had transformed my college experience.
Gaining new friends, sharing laughs, and adding to my connection across Assumption’s campus, to me, student organizations have truly led me to become a new person, which I am forever appreciative of.
Gaining an entirely new friend group, which blossomed into intramural teams, a job with Campus Rec, and a senate position for student government, this one step, though daunting at one time, is one I will always be proud of myself for.
Fully opening up my eyes to all the fun to be had on campus, student organizations truly bring everything full circle. You get to do things that you love with your friends and on your own time, and make connections that can last a lifetime.
Branching out with opportunities in internships, the expansion of my resume, and many other aspects of professional fields, I know for one that through student clubs, your future is endless.
Connecting with that one senate member or advisor of a club, increases your network. Your meaningful work in these groups also boosts your resume.
To new heights and platforms, student organizations do so much for the individual, bringing an additional excitement to the Assumption campus environment.
